Letters to President George W. Bush
"War is a last resort"
By Carol Korreck. "This is my son Tim. You have been referring to him as "military force". I want you to be continually mindful of the fact that your "military force" has a mother and two sisters that want you to value his life as much as we do."
The Face of War
By Candance Robison. "I am writing you this letter to show you the face of war. This is Max Robison. He's 6 months old and the only son of 1st. Lt. Mike Robison of the United States Army."
Sarah Slocum of San Mateo California wrote President Bush and her Representatives about conditions in Iraq
By Sarah Slocum. "The price tag on keeping our troops in Iraq is absolutely unbelievable - an estimate of 3.9 billion a month - and it is high time that we bring them home!
Although they may be happy to be rid of Saddam, it is pathetic the way that we are managing the country. They do not have access to electricity, running water, their food is going bad and they are burning up the unbearable weather that necessitates air conditioning and refrigeration."
From A Very Angry Spouse
By A Very Angry Spouse. "I am writing to you with a very heavy heart. You have failed us the American People as President. I would like to take you a day in the life of an Army Spouse. I want you to close your eyes and envision with me, but put Laura in my shoes for a minute and put your twins in our shoes."
Where is the America I Used to Know?
By Valerie. "My name is Valerie and I am from the Midwest. I want to share something dear to my heart, It is mainly about our country and where it seems to be headed. I grew up in a small Midwest town. My family set their roots here many years ago."
From a Concerned and Scared Sister
By Kari. "Every time I get my nails done, lay around and watch tv, or anything most people take for granted I am reminded of my brother, my only sibling, over in Iraq fighting for the greed a few."
Bad Birthday Gets Worse
By Jessica D. Salamon. "Two days ago, May 24th, I turned 26 years old. I had no party, no cake, no fanfare, because I was waiting for my husband to be here with me. He is a member of the Ohio National Guard and currently stationed outside of Baghdad."
Mr. President, I'll fly my flag at half staff on July 4
By Lietta Ruger. "I will fly my flag for them, Mr President, in respect for them. I will fly it at half staff. Would that you would so order, in the deepest respect, that Americans fly their flags on the Fourth of July at half staff to honor the troops who are doing the job with their very lives."
To President Bush:
September 29th, 2005
Although Mr. Bush won't see this email I hope someone, somewhere, reads it. Yesterday, when instant messaging my son in Iraq, I learned that for the second time in less than a month he narrowly escaped serious injury when his vehicle was struck by an IED.
"Best for the United States?"
January 25th, 2005
By Laura Jane McCarthy. "How specifically is my son serving his country by being part of the occupation of Iraq? What specific freedoms is my son protecting in the US by being part of the occupation of Iraq?"
Adding up the Toll of War
July 9th, 2004
By Laura McCarthy.
"'When you add it up, America is a more secure place because Saddam Hussein is no longer in power' [said Bush]. I'm confused. Exactly what are you adding up and how does that resulting number lead to your conclusion?"
A Mother Questions Bush's History, Motivations and Respect
May 16th, 2004
By Carol Korreck. "As I write this letter I feel a certain amount of futility. I received no acknowledgment when I first wrote in October, or with any of my subsequent correspondence.
But I realize I am not the only one that was shunned because of conflicting opinions on war with Iraq."
Upset Mother wants Bush to Read DOD Reports
April 17th, 2004
By Laura McCarthy. "Here are the Department of Defense reports for April 7, 2004 listing the soldiers who have died in your war in Iraq. I'm sending this list to you because I believe you probably do not have the time to read this yourself. I check it every morning of every day. Please take a moment to read each name, their ages, where they came from, and how they died. It is a long list, but well worth reading every detail. These are Americans who trusted you and looked to you for leadership. Within a couple months, I will have the privilege of potentially having my own son's name added to the list should he be killed in your war."
First Anniversary Without her Husband
April 8th, 2004
By Jessica D. Salamon. "My husband and I will be spending our first anniversary separated by continents and a war fought for reasons that have changed with the rising of each new day. Hopefully, we will get to talk to each other for a few minutes on the phone."
I want my only son home from Iraq alive.
March 18th, 2004
By Fran Hunt. "If this were a war being fought on our soil I would be standing in line, cheering my son for fighting for his country. He is not fighting for his country. He is fighting for you."
From a Military Wife
March 18th, 2004
By Jessica D. Salamon. "After a lot of effort and insomnia medication, I finally got to sleep last night. I woke up a few times and dreamt about my husband a lot. These days, my dreams are the only place I see him."
