Jones Colonel, U.S. Army (Ret) Strategic Planning Office Florida Department Of Military Affairs Dear Colonel Jones, We, the relatives of the Florida National Guard soldiers want to express our position in relation to the last postponement of the return of our soldiers back home. We want to inform you that we are united in the fight for the return of our soldiers. This letter shall serve to remind you that these soldiers have now been away from our homes for eight months, away from their children, wives and parents, away from their universities and jobs, involved in a guerilla war in an unknown country, not knowing the culture or the language of the place, menaced by mines, bombs and guns, risking their lives 24 hours a day, standing in their uniforms and carrying their equipment in temperatures of up to 130° F. In less than 3 months, this small company has suffered countless attacks, leaving 4soldiers crippled and another soldier in coma, not to mention the injured soldiers at the AR Ramadi. The National Guard soldiers are civilians, not active members of the Army. They have never received the training for combat in the desert or to face urban guerrillas. We know that, since their arrival at AR Ramadi, our young soldiers have been patrolling and searching the houses of presumed guerrilla forces. We know that they lack adequate equipment, that in many cases they have patrolled without bulletproof vests and without the necessary ammunition to face the guerrilla forces. Isn't this enough? How many months, how many abuses are we supposed to endure? We will not mention each suffering and difficulty that our soldiers have endured. We just want to tell you that we know what they are going through and that we will not keep quiet in the face of this dishonor. We will not rest until our young soldiers come back to our homes. We are determined to continue on this campaign to the end. If necessary, a group of mothers will go on an indefinite hunger strike. You will not only be responsible for the lives of our soldiers, but for that of their mothers. We shall not accept political apologies. Lack of governmental will by President Bush to work together with the United Nations and to restore the power to the Iraqis is the reason why the participation of an international force comprised by big nations is not possible. The coalition we are being told about does not really exist. It is our troops that carry the load of this war. It is our children who are being sacrificed due to an arrogant and unfair attitude. For this and for other reasons, we demand the return of our soldiers now!! We shall not abandon our loved ones; we shall not abandon our troops. We shall continue demanding their return day-by-day, street-by-street, door-to-door. We will ask the world to join us. We will not abandon our fight until our soldiers are back in our homes. Estimado Colonel Jones,

Nosotros, familiares de los soldados de la Guardia Nacional de la Florida queremos expresar nuestra posición en relación al ultimo aplazamiento del regreso a casa de nuestros soldados, queremos informales que estamos unidos en la lucha por el regreso de nuestros soldados.

Sirva la presente para recordarles que estos soldados tienen ocho meses de estar fuera de nuestros hogares, lejos de sus hijos, esposas y padres, fuera de sus universidades y trabajos, involucrados en una guerra de guerrillas de un país extraño, sin conocer la cultura, el idioma de ese lugar, acechados por minas, bombas y fusiles apuntando las 24 horas del día a su vida, soportando el uniforme y los pertrechos en un clima de 130 Grados F.

En menos de 3 meses esa pequeña compañía a sufrido innumerables ataques con el saldo de 4 soldados mutilados y otro soldado en estado de coma, no citaremos los soldados heridos que se encuentran en AR Ramadi.

Los soldados de la guardia nacional son civiles, no miembros activos del Army, nunca recibieron el entrenamiento para combate en el desierto o para enfrentar guerrillas urbanas, sabemos que desde que llegaron a AR Ramdi, nuestros jóvenes han estado patrullando y registrando casas de presuntos guerrilleros, estamos enterados de que el equipo con el que ellos trabajan no es el adecuado, que en muchas oportunidades patrullaron sin el chaleco antibala y sin las municiones necesarias para enfrentar a los guerrilleros, ¿es suficiente? ¿Cuantos meses, cuantos abusos debemos soportar?

No enumeraremos todo el sufrimiento y dificultades por la que nuestros soldados han pasado queremos decirles que lo sabemos y que no nos quedaremos callados ante esta infamia. No desmayaremos sino hasta que nuestros jóvenes regresen a nuestros hogares.

Estamos decididos a continuar en esta campaña y llegar a las ultimas consecuencias, sí nos obligan un grupo de madres iremos a una huelga de hambre indefinida, sobre ustedes corre la responsabilidad no-solo de la vida de nuestros soldados sino de la de estas madres. No aceptaremos disculpas políticas, la falta de voluntad del gobierno del presidente Bush de trabajar con las Naciones Unidas y de entregar la dirección del gobierno a los iraquíes es lo que imposibilita la participación de una fuerza internacional con la participación de las grandes naciones, la coalición de la que se nos habla realmente no existe, el peso de esta guerra la llevan nuestras tropas, es a nuestros hijos a los que se les esta sacrificando por una actitud soberbia e injusta.

Por esa y otras razones que no cabe citar ahora, exigimos el retorno de nuestros soldados ya!!, no dejaremos a nuestros seres queridos solos, no abandonaremos a nuestras tropas, Continuaremos exigiendo el retorno de ellos día a día, calle por calle puerta por puerta, le pediremos al mundo que se nos una, no vamos abandonar nuestra lucha hasta que nuestros soldados se encuentren en nuestros hogares.
